I was puzzling out, how to reconcile with the prevailing judge-a-book-by-its-cover attitude?
To begin with I selected a photograph from my travels in China. Once mocked up, the original cover was pleasing to the eye and the critical mind. Trusted friends, and independent neutrals, unanimously loved the image … yet they unanimously shied away from its use as, variously, ‘the book cover’, ‘a book cover’, ‘any book cover’, and so on.
I am aglow with pride at a brilliant book cover. By James Bloomfield.
Credit where it is due.
